Abracadabra! Presto Change-o! Wait... Where'd everybody go?
I think I have figured out one of the reasons why so many weight loss bloggers disappear once they hit their goal weight. No matter what their weight loss plan....banded, Weight Watchers, Atkins, gastric bypass, etc...most of them disappear from the blogosphere and interwebs the moment they check that proverbial box of "lose the weight."
Do they keep the weight off? who knows?
Are they off living a fabulous skinny life and have no time for blogging? Maybe. Who knows?
I think that as people get to know the "new" slimmer person...the positive comments and compliments end. You know, that's why they call it the honeymoon phase after all. I'm still in the honeymoon phase myself. I run into acquaintances and friends that haven't seen me since I weighed 250 + lbs. An example was a college roommate last week. Then, there was the compliment from a coworker this morning in the cafeteria who I don't see very often as he works in another building.
One day, this will be the "normal" me. The compliments of "wow, you look great!" will STOP. And I'm OK with that as my focus has always been on improved health. The physical appearance change was just the "bonus" in the process.
One day, everyone will only know the me as I am now...the size 6 petite person who they sometimes call "tiny".
That's why I am trying to continue to spread the word about maintenance. As I have said before, maintenance is just as hard as losing. It's just a lot more boring. There are no exciting losses (or gains) to report each week. It's fighting the good fight...every...damn...day.
I try to set attainable goals for myself that are not related to the scale but rather fitness and general health.
Luckily, we all have some FABULOUS role models out there talking about maintenance. Stop by their blogs and say hello.
PS: Weigh-in day tomorrow, Zumba toning tonight!
sheesh :)did you take me off the at goal blog place because I have moved above the 'goal' button point?
ReplyDeleteI think life just becomes bigger than the weight loss for some. I am still blogging but less frequently. Life is definitely bigger than the weight loss now but I keep on blogging.
xxxooo
OOPS! my bad..! LOL :)
ReplyDeleteThrough the years, I've made my weight loss goal more than once. Then I would go right back to my old way of eating. Before long I'd be right back where I started. I expect some of the people who "disappear" probably come back to begin anew but that is just a guess. I did see a lady at WW on Tuesday that all the workers knew. She had met her goal two years ago but was coming back to start over. Thanks for mentioning me. :)
ReplyDeleteI am right near my "Healthy BMI" goal, but I can't even begin to think about stopping blogging. Without you all, I would be lost. My schedule doesn't always keep me blogging on a daily basis, but I have to keep with it. Everyone's help and support means a lot to me...
ReplyDeleteWell you COULD just keep gaining back 10 pounds and then losing it again. Think of how many Red Lobster biscuits and chocolate bars you could eat while you "work" to gain 10 pounds.
ReplyDeleteWait...that's probably a bad idea. Never mind.
I don't really have a lot to comment on this post except for the last line about Zumba. I did a Zumba class for the first time tonight and wow...I really think I like it. I'm going to do a whole post about it tomorrow, but I just wanted you to know you were the inspiration for me trying Zumba. Seeing how much fun you had when you started etc. Thank you, and thank you for continueing to blog even through maintenance.
ReplyDeletePlease dont ever stop! I count on your posts to spur me on! Catherines too and the others who've you mentioned.
ReplyDeleteMaybe some people stop blogging when they hit goal because they feel like they have nothing left to offer... which makes little sense to me. I love reading about how people maintain and I know it is as much a struggle as losing is. I love that you continue to focus on fitness & health goals and share those things with us. :)
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let you know I have started a blog and mostly due to your encouragement....thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Have fun at Zumba!!
ReplyDeleteYou make a really good point! I'm glad to see you maintaining and checking in with us regularly you've been a great teacher to many of us!
ReplyDeleteLol, you must be watching/hanging out at Allergan events with bandedwendy, because I see you have adopted her phrase, "Every... damn... day!"
