If It Isn’t Any Fun, Then Why Bother?

For me, exercise has to be fun, otherwise I just won't stick with it.  I'll do it for a few days and then stop.

I hate those exercise machines at the gym. They are so BORING. The DREADmill.  The elliptical.  Ick.

In my entire weight loss journey of losing 111+ lbs, I have NEVER used any of those machines at the gym. NEVER.
That's why I love Zumba and Jazzercise. They make my brain work and it's FUN too.

Here's a video that proves that if you make exercise fun, people are more likely to participate.

  1. That is great!!!!! I too just want to have fun.. Zumba, Kickboxing, Ballet Barre and Core Crunch work for me. I also walk my dogs for 30 minutes everyday. The more I exercise, the more I want to do it.

  3. I agree that exercise needs to be fun, and while I don't think necessarily my morning workouts are exactly fun, I am proud of myself for completing them and they are part of my morning - prework - routine. Sorta like brushing my teeth. Not fun exactly but part of the day and make me feel much better than sticky morning mouth! :) My after work activity is all fun though, bike riding, walks outside w/hubby, Zumba etc. That stuff must be fun or I'm not likely to do it!
As a novice piano player, I LOVED that video. I found myself wondering if I could play songs on it.

  4. That's fantastic! I tried to put on a Jillian Michaels workout DVD the other day and took it out in seconds! I hate BORING workouts for sure. So I put in Zumba for the wii instead. I like walking. I like riding my bike. I enjoy working out. But I totally agree that I have to enjoy it for me to do it! :)

  5. That looks so cool. You are right about exercise being fun. I don't stick to it at all when it feels like a chore. Zumba is somewhat fun, but because I'm uncoordinated, it felt like work. I think I will try Kickboxing at the rec center here on campus. Thanks for posting!!

  8. That was awesome! And I love that you mentioned that you haven't used any gym equipment even though you successfully got to goal and are maintaining! I also greatly dislike the boring gym, but I've been Zumba-ing and Turbo Kick-ing for over a month with great results! Encouraging as all get out!

  9. I must be the odd one out. I LOVE the gym. I love the treadmill and like to race myself, always trying to better my time. I love the arc and the elliptical. On the other hand, the first Zumba class I tried I injured my knee and could barely walk for nearly 6 weeks. I sometimes daydream about the home gym I would build if I ever hit the lottery. I am counting down the weeks until the doctor says I can hit the gym again!
