Weigh-in Day...and a Dentist Visit

Goal Weight: 145 lbs

This Week's Weight: 141.2 lbs

**************
I broke a big chunk off of my crown about two weeks ago and finally got to see my dentist yesterday.

Oh the exciting life lead.

Luckily, the crown was repairable and I didn't need a new crown. (Phew! That's humungo $$$).

The dentist told me that it looks like I am grinding my teeth at night.

I looked at her skeptically.

Question authority, people.

I know that most people experience day time headaches with night teeth grinding.

So I asked her if someone had to chew all of their foods to the consistency of applesauce before swallowing would also show the same wear as grinding teeth at night.  And guess what she said:

"Absolutely."

I've sometimes thought about that extra bandster chewing and it effects on our teeth.

In case you were wondering, she wasn't trying to sell me some expensive mouth guard.  She told me to go down to Target or Wal Mart and buy one.  Which I won't.

She also said that with my extra chewing that any future crowns that I get should be metal (gold) as they will hold up better.  I just smiled at her and thought in my head "Let's not and just say that we will. That Mike Tyson impersonation can wait."

  1. OMG! That picture is too gross! I hope Pemberly never does that (and I hope my cats don't do it when I'm gone - maybe I should set up a nanny cam).

  2. I the spending money on dental work! So , yea thar your crown could be repaired. I know its serious, but that's kinda funny that she thought you were grinding your teeth at night, but it's actually bc of how well you chew your food.

  3. geezzzzzzz the picture is nasty!! I am going to say that since we are all supposed to be chewing our food that much anyway then wearing out teeth seems kind of far fetched. I hate going to the dentist. I have a big crack in my crown too...and have to get a new one :(. I have that appointment some time soon (I better go check so I don't miss it)...

hmm I wish I could miss it..hate the dentist. :) did I already say that? Happy Friday!!!

  6. About 6 months out of surgery, I got a mouth guard!!! I did find that I was grinding my teeth asleep while travelling and had the headaches but I am sure that the chewing doesn't help either. Crazy!

  7. Keep good care of your teeth. I now have major work to fix my bite and also get veneers because my teeth are ground down so much. Mega-mega bucks in the next few months. I could get two more bands or a new car for what I will spend on my teeth. But I'll have the best smile around for a few more years.

  9. You definitely come so far in achieving and maintaining your weight. It’s not easy, but you showed us what determination can do. You’re such an inspiration! I just feel sorry about what happened to your crown. I hope after this, you never experience any major tooth-related problems. How are you now, btw?
