NOT Drinking with Meals

This has been something I had always struggled with since surgery.

As most of you know, bandsters aren't supposed to drink with our meals...key phrase in that sentence is "supposed to".  There are a lot of "supposed to's" in my new lifestyle.  Like, "supposed to" exercise or "supposed to" take my vitamins...or my favorite: I'm "supposed to" stop eating when I feel full (that could be a whole other post in itself).

Anyways, I think I have finally made it a "way of life" for me and don't realize it much anymore.

Example: yesterday I was at a potluck and we were all sitting down to eat.  A friend said to me, "aren't you going to have something to drink, they're over there on the table."  I hadn't even looked for the drinks prior to sitting down, it is just second nature now not to seek out a drink when eating.  FINALLY!  Only took over a year to get to this point...!

PS: Weigh-in day is tomorrow.

  1. I succeed with this about 50% of the time. When I am eating with people, or eating out, I tend to drink a little bit. When I am eating by myself (at work, or at home), I am good about steering clear. Baby steps!

  2. This is the 2nd hardest part of the journey, aside from the liquid diet pre & post op. So far, I've done well. But it's a daily struggle.

  3. I hear you, so loud and clear.

As a matter of fact, in order to get around this same exact problem for myself, I drink a large glass of water/crystal light/FF milk *before* my meal. That way, I don't feel like I can't have something to drink. I just drink it all first!

Hmmmmmmmmm........... would I eat less if I downed a martini first? Haven't tried that yet :)

  4. As a newbie this is something I'm having trouble with as well. I'm just so used to drinking all the time. And because I try not to drink with meals I find myself not drinking enough throughout the day. Frustrating. But hopefully with practice I'll make the change.

  9. You know something I noticed after getting band and going through retraining? I noticed that a lot of my thin friends and colleagues don't gulp water or drink liquids during their meals. I think the gulping during meals made me unable to understand when I was full or hungry.

I'm glad it becomes natural after awhile. I think now that you are a thin woman you are acting like a think woman!

    Great NSV.
