Product Review - Odwalla Strawberry Protein Monster

I spotted the Odwalla Strawberry Protein Monster the other day at the grocery store.  It has a cute pink look to it with a little cow on the label and the nutrition facts looked promising:

  • 20 grams of protein (from soy/dairy sources; I always try to look for whey protein isolate in my shakes)
  • 240 calories
  • Tons of vitamins.
  • Unfortunately, it has a TON of sugar in it.
But the taste...oh my...the taste.  Sigh.

It's pretty much like the taste of chewing on a multi-vitamin that isn't supposed to be chewed with a twist of Milk of Magnesia aftertaste.  Yuck.  I actually couldn't swallow it and spit it out in the sink.

There are other flavors available like vanilla, but I don't think that I'm brave enough to give it a try.

  1. Don't you hate when this happens! The bottle looks like Pepto and I can't get that stuff down either.

  2. That is how I felt about Muscle Milk. I found some bottles on clearance of orange and grape flavors. I tried a little of the orange. Oh my word!!!! My stomach twisted and said "Heck No!!" Now I know why they were on clearance.

  3. I love the chocolate one. But only if I freeze it and drink it on the thaw. The vanilla isn't band either. Never had the strawberry. I hate most protein drinks! Blah

  7. There are soooo many bad ones aren't there? I have only found the ones mixed to order or mixed at home taste worth a darn. I wish there was a quick one I could pick up at the store and get down!

  8. I tried that one in the vanilla...........bleck!!! I won't be spending my money on that one again. You are right about tasking like a chewed up vitamin.

  9. thanks for the heads up. I have been drinking EAS light for my liquid diet and it is not too bad. I just got my Unjury order and I can't wait to experiment with that. Any good Unjury recipes?

  10. The only protein shake I've been able to stomach is the Labrada Lean Body Cookies & Cream. I like the vanilla ice cream flavor too but hate the strawberry one.

  11. That's just too many calories for a drink. I can make a protein smoothie with 25 grams of protein and have the calorie count under 200.
