Keeping It Real

For any newbie bandsters and followers, I thought that I would post a quick photo of my daily food intake.

I only track calories and protein.

I do not use a fancy spreadsheet or online program.

I use a post-it note.  Very low-tech.

I start a new post-it each day.  It's portable and fits in my purse/wallet easily.  I try to remember to throw it away at the end of the day, but I sometimes find old post-its in the most random places...under the car seats...in my office desk drawers....pants pockets....you name it.

I write down everything I eat except vitamins.

On past past post-its, I have been known to write down all kinds of things like:
  • "Cookies" = 5 g protein and 400 calories (yikes)
OR
Yep.  It all gets written down.  Here's my mid-day post-it for today....
**edited to add**  I sometimes use calorieking.com to look foods up for their calorie and protein contents or usually the food labels.

I know that some of you don't keep track and are able to lose or maintain your weight with out writing it down.  That's great! :)

Unfortunately, I am not one of those people.

Maybe one day I will be...but for now...I will keep on post-it noting.

  1. I know I'll always have to track my food in order to stay at goal. Thanks for the encouragement on exercising. I NEED to do this!

  4. I just realized I finally figured out who you remind me of in your profile picture!!! It's Meredith from Grey's Anatomy!!!! Gosh that was bugging me. I think you two look alot alike in the face in that photo!!!

I think your post-its are too cute. I use my calorie counter on my iphone. Counting gets old though but it works!

  5. I keep a post it pad stuck to the fridge just for tallying calories throughout the day - super handy! As much as I love tech stuff - low tech is good sometimes. :)

  6. I like your little post its...but I find that I am not always sure on the carb/fat/protein content of my foods and I'm at a point where I need to know...so I like myfitnesspal.com...I'm crazy about it in fact and keep commenting on it...they should pay me. But they have a lot of food products in the database...even esoteric foods like Trader Joe's Green Shrimp Curry????

  7. I don't like loggin my food, but I've found that to be successful I HAVE to do it. I use a Body Bugg which really works for me because I get to see the calories burned side of things as well.

  9. I've been trying to fool myself into thinking that I don't need to track, but I'm starting to think that's not the case. Writing it on a post it seems so easy even a caveman (or me) could do it.

  11. Love the post-it notes. I use myfitnesspal.com for now, but I think I should do both to make sure I get all the little bites here and there.

  12. I don't love tracking but I have been doing it more lately. I use Calorieking (I have a subscription), which I really like.

Thanks for letting us know your secrets!

  13. "but I sometimes find old post-its in the most random places"

They spawn and reproduce. They are everywhere! Sometime I think all the socks and pens I loose turn into post its???

Someday in their growing numbers they will revolt and enslave us! Then they will punish us for scribbling all over their grandparents.

    Be afraid people, be afraid!

(Sorry for bringing my bizarre sense of humor to your serious blog. The post its MADE me do it!)

  14. A post-it is a great idea!! It would be so much easier to carry around than the little memo pad I bought. I'm barely a month out but keeping track makes such good sense since banding, why didn't I do this before LOL
