After Spending Thousands of Dollars on My Lap-Band...

"You get what you pay for and pay for what you get..."

My Lap-Band surgery and the three years of after care has cost me approximately $18,826.

Yep, I've kept track.

That means that I've spent about $159 for each and every pound i've lost.

Sometimes when I'm sitting in my used 2002 Honda Civic with its small dents and the inside panelling peeling, I think: "I could be driving a NEWer car right now instead of getting that Lap-Band..."

Welcome to crazy-town...comparing my weight loss to a car.

Anywhoozle, let's now talk about some good news:

My Lap-Band adjustments are COVERED under my new health insurance plan at work!

I've located a bariatric surgeon near me and I've become their new best friend by calling to try and get a band adjustment appointment for the first week of January (when my insurance kicks in).

Yay! Let's do the happy dance.

  2. I am so happy that you have new insurance! Every pound is so worth it either way, but it will help out and give you some peace of mind. Congrats!

  3. I'm so very glad for you that your insurance covers the adjustments. I now know the pain of having to pay for them. I just had a bill for over $100 because our insurance changed and the new insurance only covers adjustments if you are morbidly obese. Blah...

  4. So awesome that your adjustments are covered! I'm hoping that in the next 2 years after I get my teaching license and get on a good health care plan, my luck will change there, too! :)

  5. Glad you're covered now - and are you sure this new practice knows what they're in for with such a successful, knowledgeable patient?!?

  6. That is great that you found an insurance who will pay for the fills. I am not sure why they are so expensive? I mean it takes like a minute!! We should all learn how to do fills and take turns giving each other back alley fills/unfills. Kidding of course...kind of.

  8. That's great about your insurance! Thankfully my insurance covered most of my surgery. I would not have been able to have it if I had to pay for it all.

  9. I love that comparison you did. A hundred and fifty dollars a pound! Interesting.

    Thanks for sharing.
