I Want To Be Able To See When I'm Old.

Meet Gummy Bear*.

The Bear likes to rock out.
I've been friends with Gummy Bear for a few years now.

He's been my hiking buddy on many occasions...here and here are old hiking posts.

The Bear used to be diabetic and on two types of diabetes medications.

He used to weigh over 280 lbs.

But in the last year he started to wonder about how his obesity was affecting his life.

He was worrying about how obesity would one day affect his independence.

"I want to be able to see when I'm old and not have vision issues due to my diabetes," he told me.

"I want to be able to be independent and walk when I'm old." he said.

He was worried.

Gummy Bear changed his ways.

For about three to four months now he's been doing Insanity. The food plan and the workouts.

He's been using his food scale.

He's been doing portion control.

He's been avoiding drinking beer...one of his faves.

Take a look at the Bear now.

215 lbs!

Well done Gummy Bear!

And just in case you were wondering...what do two former fatties do when they get together? They eat fro yo!

* = Not his real name, 'cuz that would be weird.

  1. Thats a great transformation! Thanks for putting the emphasis on health! I get suckered into the size and the look part of the journey all too often....its good health that is the reward. ~ Have fun in CA! Its so beautiful, cant wait to get back there!

  2. Just out of curiosity, are those truly gummy bears in his fro yo?

  3. Wow! I am super impressed! What a hottie!

  4. Gummi Bear is lookin' hot!!! :)

  5. Thanks for sharing. Now you and gummy bear can go on more hIkes and take more great photos. Your friend looks fabulous and a great way to deal with a chronic disease. Well done.

  6. He IS hot. Take him to CA with you!

  7. More like YUMMI BEAR :) Congrats to him for taking control and really getting healthy!

  8. WOW! What a hunk! :) Great job! You let him read all these comments now ya hear?!

  9. Time to change that name to Smokin' Hot Bear! So glad for his success!

  10. Way to go Gummy Bear. I agree with Tina - he needs a new name...and maybe a move to CA. Wink, wink.

  11. He's a hottie! Congratulations, Bear!

  12. Mmmm Hottie! : ) Yep, take him to CA with you!

I do have to agree with Warrior though - the journey is about health and fitness more than it's about the size or look.

  13. He doesn't look much like a gummi bear anymore. I love to see people get healthy, go him!!
