I Need My Fashionistas Help! Dressing Room Adventure

“A woman's dress should be like a barbed-wire fence: serving its purpose without obstructing the view.”

~Sophia Loren

I need a dress for a few different professional events coming up. So off I went to TJ Maxx yesterday. Yep, that's one of my few store options in this little one-horse town that I live in.

Here's what I ended up with.

For the bargain price of $19.99 (No sales tax in Oregon!)
Size Small
What do you think?

It's kinda church dress-ish, don't cha think?  It falls very appropriately and conservatively to my knees.

I'll definitely have to bring out the big guns of shapewear to make it really work.

What about a black blazer over it? Would that work? What color heels? Help.

  1. I heart TJMAxx too! Love the red dress! No Blazer!

  2. The dress is fabulous; no jacket required. Rock the black stilettos. ;-)

  3. I think the dress is really great. I don't think that you *need* a blazer over it, but if you would feel more comfortable in one (for a work scenario), I think a blazer would work just fine.\

And I'm going to go with black heels. Or you could dress it down with brown shoes (for some reason, brown always seems less formal than black to me).

  4. What kind of clutch do you have? Just match that with your shoes - if you need a new clutch, too, I'd go with black. Blazer only needed if it's a really conservative kind of professional event - any other covering, like a shrug, would interfere too much with the draped neckline.

    You look beautiful!

  5. Well you know I am all about high heels, so dependednt on the occasion you could go with the traditional black (red is too hard to match and would see to bridesmaid-ish) or you could wear something like this to make it fun: http://www.amazon.com/Wild-Diva-Lorane-Floral-Satin/dp/B007ODTR1O/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1334755462&sr=8-18

I like the dress...I've gotten some nice finds at TJ Maxx and Marshalls.

  7. What about brown boots? Not to go against the majority, because black heels would look great:) No blazer!

  8. No Blazer! Fun High Heels and some cool jewelry would kick it out of the church dress realm. If your company is conservation go with the black heels, if you want safe. I have reached the age and the attitude that safe is no fun.

  10. Such a great dress. I would go nude heels. Lengthens the leg and is fashionable now. Make them HIGH...just cause you can now. I would skip the blazer too...unless you are cold, it just weighs it down. You are looking so great!

  11. That looks amazing!! I love it! Don't do the blazer -- and pair it with nude closed-toe pumps, a la Kate Middleton (she wears LK Bennett in nude patent leather.. everyone knocks them off). That will be gorgeous, but still professional.

  14. What a great dress! I like the nude heels suggestion. I would probably put a lace cami under it but I dress pretty conservatively so others would probably disagree. It looks great! And the price is fabu!

  15. Love the dress! I probably wouldn't do a blazer with it. Maybe wear some nude patent pumps with it.

  16. I agree - NO jacket and DEFINITELY Nude heels! Totally elongates your leg and doesn't cut you off. I do not like red dresses and black heels - can cross the line to trashy. Just my opinion LOL You look GORGEOUS tho - el tiny one. And shapewear - umm no!

  17. You look great. That's a darling dress. Not churchy at all, imo. I would wear nude pumps and a jacket only if you need one.

  18. Love the dress. No, its not too churchy. I think black heels would be perfect as well. You look amazing!
