I found another new-to-me weight loss support group in my area this past weekend.
All weight loss surgery peeps were there: RNY, VSG, DS, Bands, etc.
About 50+ people all together.
Very cool.
There was a guest speaker (a VSG'er who is also a therapist) who talked about battling our "inner critic." She said that she specializes in "Psycho-Drama" which I have no idea what that is, but sounds like a really cool name for a reality TV show. Right? I would watch it.
But wait, I digress.
Anywhoozle, then there was a 20 minute Q&A session with the local bariatric surgeon who hosts the support group. People asked awesome questions about the whether there was any usefulness to a medical alert bracelet and what foods are best to eat to build muscle. All very informative.
There was also a table that had a lending library of weight loss surgery books and people also brought in protein items that maybe they didn't like the taste of but thought others might like to try:
At the end of the meeting, people could "shop" and check out all these plastic tubs full of used/free clothes that people could borrow and bring back as they shrunk out of their clothes:
Have you found a support group near you? Tell me about it.
sounds great!! I think I must specialize in psycho drama too but it all takes place in my own head! LOL The group sounded great
ReplyDeleteThat support group sounds amazing! We have a local one in the town I live in. However, the person who "runs" it is not very reliable and there are only about 3 other people go to it....my husband and I now skype into our support group put on by our surgeons office because it is a 2 hour drive. It's not ideal, but it's the best we have. Still only a hand full of people, but the content discussed is better.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great sounding group! How did you find it? Was it free? Were there any "requirements" to attend?
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing group! Sounds awesome. I love my support group it's only VSGers (my surg. holds 3 per month, one for bands, bypass and sleeves, but everyone IS welcome to attend any or all) and I've only missed twice since being sleeved 28 months ago. I've often thought of doing a clothing exchange deal but it seems exhuasting and overwhelming to plan and I was quite sure if I was the one to suggest it then I might get stuck planning it. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the clothes lending! : ) What a fabulous idea.
ReplyDeleteI stopped going to my support group almost a year ago. The band people never came back, and there would only be one or two a month there. The rest were all Bypass.
