That's what was taste-tested at my weight loss support group this past weekend.
I ended up with a curry sweet n' spicy rub:
Lastly, I got to catch up with friend and fellow blogger, Stacey.
Stacey has a VSG (Sleeve) and blogs over at: Time to Get Real. Stacey is looking for encouragement to get back into blogging on a regular basis. Please stop by her blog and say "hello." She's waiting for your comments.
Yep.
That's what she said.
Chocolate.
But don't worry.
There was none of that good ol' fashioned, full of sugar, Hershey's chocolate in sight.
Bummer.
The kind of chocolate that we tasted was the hippy-dippy, 8,427% cacoa, fancy shmancy stuff.
Damn:
The chocolate taste-testing was part of a presentation from a local sous chef, who we shall call Hawaiian Shirt (HS), who also happens to be 6+ years post-op with his gastric bypass surgery. He's maintained his goal weight for almost five years now. That's HS standing up there at the front of the room.
We also tasted different types of salt.
HS told us all about how different salt flavors can enhance our food choices and add minerals to our diets.
Ummm.
Sure.
Whatevs.
We tried Pink Himalayan salt.
We tasted a black salt with a name that I couldn't pronounce.
Ya know: That spendy salt that you don't find at Wal-Mart.
Check out all that colorful salt! |
Onwards to my favorite part of HS's presentation:
We got to make our own rub for grilling meats.
We went around the table and smelled different spices and added them to our cup.
We wrote down each spice that we added so we could recreate the recipe at home one day.
So many spicy choices! |

Thanks for this, and yes, I did post a blog. (After you reminded me!)
ReplyDeleteThanks for giving a LapBand wannabe foodie some hope to still be able to be a foodie. I'm NOT a big eater at about 1800 cals a day. But, I am a totally foodie. Big flavors, not big portions. I've been wondering how much of my life long foodie self I was going to lose along with the weight but you telling me about HS guy just gave me some hope. I know I'll lose her for a while but she can come back. I am already planning to make homemade bone broth to freeze close to my surgery because of its gut healing properties and because I cannot stand canned or instant bullion...lol I am even thinking of a cookbook for WLS Foodies. Could be fun! I cannot say thank you enough.
ReplyDeleteThis is really cool. I haven't been to my fist support group meeting yet, but am contemplating the one tomorrow night. I have a growing curiosity for what they are like.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like SO MUCH FUN to me!! I haven't been able to go to a support meeting yet, I have a hard time imagining ours are anything like this, but I hope I'm wrong. :-D I'd even be willing to bring a HS....
ReplyDeleteI just bought the himalayan pink salt...I really like it..although I am not a big salter..but I love the pink color(I know lame reason right) I think it is cool trying the spices...sometimes I want to but it can get so expensive and I never know all the ways to use them...but I do use more spices in cooking now than I ever did..just wished my kid opened his mind to it more!
ReplyDeleteI used to LOVE group and then I just stopped going. Me thinks tonight is the night. Thanks!
