What do I Eat?

I've received a few emails and blog post requests lately asking about what I eat.

When I was losing, I was very, very structured and wrote ALL OF MY FOOD choices down on a post it note.  Pretty old school, but it worked.  115 lbs gone in 14 months.

Keep in mind:
  • I never counted fat grams, EVER.
  • I never counted carbs, EVER
  • All I kept track of was calories and protein.  That's it.
  • Oh yeah, I also cut out ALL alcohol.
Here's what I ate when I was losing:

I will usually eat like this now that I'm in maintenance approximately 5 of the 7 days of the week.  I have nicknamed this menu plan or way of eating "hard core." Don't ask me why, I just do.

Those other two days where I loosely follow this plan, I will also eat other foods that will take my calorie counts up to about 2000+ each day.  I will not tell you what those specific foods are because what happens on "Fat Girl Fridays" can only be discussed using whispered hushed voices.  Shhh...

Anyways, now it's your turn.  I encourage you to post about what you are eating to be a successful loser.  I want to know.

  1. Thank you for this post! It's great to see what you ate to lose it! Also - I've been having trouble finding a tracking system that I like - thanks for the awesome idea to create my own in excel!

    Have a great day!

  2. I only track my foods this hardcore when I'm seeing myself slip and need to reign it in, but my philosophy was somewhat similar to yours, but tailored to my personal body chemistry, at least during my heavy losing phase (70 lbs in 11 months). Instead of watching calories, I watched carbs (they just affect my body in a particularly harsh way). So I never tracked fat or calories, but I made sure every meal was high in protein and kept my simple carbs in check. Everything fell in line after that. I still drank alcohol on the weekends though. ;)

  7. Martha , there is a smart phone ap called My Fitness Pal, which is great ! AND it has a scanner part that you can scan the barcode of something you are eating and it will add it in there for you. I find that it keeps me on track :)
