There Was a Little Girl
by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
There was a little girl,
Who had a little curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead.
When she was good,
She was very, very good,
But when she was bad she was horrid.
Kindergarten, 1984
I know this poem by heart because I've heard it so many times.
And do you know what? I always thought that it was just a reference about my curly hair. I never really put two and two together that the poem is a completely accurate poem about who I am and how I think. I guess my Mom knew what she was talking about. (Hi Mom!)
Example?
When I am good with my food choices, I am REALLY good. Practically perfect in every way. (oh wait, that's Mary Poppins). But you know what I mean.
When I am bad with my food choices, I am REALLY horrid. I don't just step of the band wagon for a quick naughty bite of something. I fling myself off the wagon so far that I I get stuck in the land of pizza, cookies, and ice cream. It takes days, sometimes a week to undo all that I did and for the scale to show a good weight.
I'm still looking for some balance in the land of weight maintenance. I need to get away from this "all or nothing" thinking. Something to work on.
Or maybe I just need to find a good hair straightening iron? Just sayin'.
I think the reason I chose LapBand was because I could have some of the "good things" when it came to food choices. To me it is all about moderation and portion size. Have your Pizza, only have small square pieces maybe two, (that is all I can eat due to restriction). Have your IceCream but only have a half a cup and do not do it everyday unless you plan on burning off those calories. I have a friend who lost all of her 240 pounds and is at goal and each and every day of her loss, she had a cookie. One cookie in the middle of the afternoon. It was a ginger snap, but still it was a cookie!
ReplyDeleteSo don't think of it as all or nothing, think of it as I can have anything I want in moderation. After all we did not get to our sizes by eating in moderation. We over ate and over ate by huge amounts usually.
I think you are doing fantastic! Just sayin.......:)
I often wish I could be more moderate in my eating. My youngest daughter just naturally eats anything she wants but very small portions. I've been known to go behind her Hoovering up her leftover cake, doughnuts, ice cream and other treats. If I were like her, I would never have been overweight.
ReplyDeleteI am the exact same way. If you figure out the trick, let me know!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way, it takes alot of work to get back in the game!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way...although I can say I'm a little better with the "all or nothing" attitude than I was pre-band...and for that I am ever so thankful!
ReplyDeleteGosh, can I just say how much a appreciate that you talk about stuff like this. I've been losing my weight with the band pretty quickly, but I still have bad days and its encouraging to know that you are at goal, even though you had/have bad food days sometimes too. I'm not at goal, but I think I will be in less than a year post op. Thank you for keeping it real!!
