Support Group was great last night!

I attended my surgeon's once month support group for bandsters last night. The Nurse Practioner who does most of the fills at my surgeon's office attended too. So we got to ask her all kinds of questions!

Since I still haven't had my first fill, it was interesting to learn that the average cc's in the lap band patients that she see's at the time of their first fill is 4 to 5 cc's. This is before they put in the first fill....doesn't this seem like a lot? It does to me. hmmm...

PS: I am two days out from my one month surgiversary!!

  1. Oh my goodness I wish I had 4 or 5cc's right now, my surgeon doesn't put anything at all in the band at the time of surgery!! Not to mention he keeps you on mushies until your first fill, yeah right!

  2. Wow that seems like way too much to start with.. how strange. Glad the support group was good tho. It all helps.

  3. Mushies until the first fill!?! I'd have gone crazy! I was banded at NYU and I guess it varies by patient but I had 2cc's in to start with and then she added 3cc's or so my first fill. I thought that was a lot, but wow, had I started with 5, that would've been crazy. My husband started with more but I'd have to ask him how much.

  5. My Surgeon just told us today at my appointment before tomorrows Surgery said that he generally puts in 2-2 1/2 cc's to start. I can go to normal eating in 2 wks.

  6. I actually had all the prefill taken out of my band, because I had complications with the first surgery (had to go under again the next day)(apparently there is about 1 mil or so in the band before it is fitted). I had nothing in my band until my first fill (about 6 weeks after surgery), I am at 4.3 mil now and if I had 4-5 at the beginning I don't think I would have gotten anything down! That really does seem alot

  7. My surgeon says that they put a primer in your band - less than 1cc at surgery just to test it out. My doc's office (NYU) says that they really want to get you to your sweet spot in a shorter time but obviously keeping you safe. I had 4 cc's first fill, 1.5 second - would have been more but I was flying the next day - and then .75 the last time so I'm at 6.25. I feel really close, so hoping I get about .5 today to get me there!! Let us know what you get!!

  8. My band had 3 cc's when it was put in. I am very thankful for this, because I am hoping that I won't experience Bandster Hell! I can eat my measured meals three times a day not be that hungry in between. Which is kinda amazing to me since each meal was only 2 tbs! I went for my follow up yesterday and can now move on to solid foods, very slowly.
